Adding Android Devices

Adding Android Devices

Any Lenovo Android device can be claimed and provisioned in Lenovo Device Manager in two ways - scanning a QR code from the LDM portal or through a manual registration process.

Automatically Claiming and Provisioning a Device

  1. Navigate to Device Management > Devices page. Click on ✚ Claim Device button.
  2. Select the device type to be added. (Mobile/Tablet, AR/VR)

  3. You can follow one of the below methods to install the UDC agent and/or provision the device:
    1. Scan QR code - On devices with preloaded UDC, scan the QR code using the device camera to register the device to the LDM organization and provision all device configurations.
    2. Download QR code - If the device is not immediately available to scan the QR code or you need to distribute it to multiple devices in your organization, select Download the QR Code to download it in the following formats - PNG, JPEG, SVG, PDF.
    3. Install UDC client as Device Owner - If your device does not have pre-installed UDC package, select this option to install UDC client as a device owner. Follow the below steps:
      1. Enter your WiFi settings (SSID, WiFi Security). Click on Next.

      2. Scan QR Code with your device and click Next.
      3. Complete the registration process on the device by following the instructions on Lenovo UDC (from the device) and click Complete.
      4. Navigate to Device Management > Devices page. The device status will be Active.

Manually Registering an Android Device

You can manually register an Android device in cases of any issue with scanning of QR code or if the device does not have a camera.
  1. Navigate to Device Management > Devices page. Click on ✚ Claim Device button.
  2. Select the device type to be added. (Mobile/Tablet, AR/VR)
  3. In the Add Device screen, click Manual Device Registration
Manually claiming this device will not permit Device Owner capabilities and will limit management functionality for the device in LDM.

  4. Click the Download File button.
  5. Copy the udc-provision file to the root folder of the device.
  6. Reboot the device. Navigate to Device Management > Devices page. The device status will be Active.

Remote Configuration of Android Devices

In situations when a device is lost or stolen, it's important that Organization Admins have the ability to remotely configure the Android device to avoid unauthorised access. Org Admins can lock the device and reset the device password/PIN from the Device Settings sub-tab in the Device Information tray.
