Onboarding Linux (Ubuntu) Devices to LDM

Lenovo Device Manager allows organization admins to Add Linux (Ubuntu) Edge or PC devices easily. Users can download the provisioning pack with the necessary files and apply to the devices. Any Lenovo Linux (Ubuntu) device can be automatically added to LDM by installing the LDM Provisioning Pack to the device.

Adding a Linux (Ubuntu) Device

  1. Go to Device Management > Devices page.

  2. Click the ✚ Onboard Device button.

  3. Select OS type: Linux

  4. Choose the onboarding method: Standard or ARM.

  5. Click Next.

  6. From the dropdown menus, set the following:
    1. Installer Expiration: 7 days/30 days/60 days/90 days/365 days.
    2. Maximum Usage: 5K Devices/10K Devices/50K Devices.

  7. Select Download Installer.

  8. UDCSetup.deb will be downloaded. You can:
    1. Run it on the current device,
    2. distribute it to multiple devices, or
    3. save it to a USB drive for on-premises installation.

  9. Navigate to the folder where the installer was downloaded and run UDCSetup.deb as an Administrator.

  10. After installation is complete, the device will appear in Devices > Device Management within your Device Management organization.
    The Device Management Provisioning Pack (device.zip) is a zip file, which contains: 
    1. install.sh - The shell script that will install the UDC client in the Windows device.

    2. udc.deb - The UDC setup file.

    3. udc-provision.json - The UDC Service information, task control settings, device parameters to be fetched when running the provisioning pack.

  11. Unzip and copy the files to an empty folder on the Linux (Ubuntu) device. For example, /home/<device name>/Downloads.

  12. Open the folder location containing the install.sh script (e.g., /home/<device name>/Downloads).

  13. Open the Terminal window and execute the install.sh shell script with administrative privileges. 



  14. If the execution process is successful, the udc.service will be active and running, and the Lenovo UDC Agent will show a Started state.

  15. Go to Device Management > Devices page. The Ubuntu device will appear in the device list.
